The Weather Channel Publishes:

Storm Chaser, The Real Life Story of a
Professional Storm Chaser
and Photojournalist

Storm Chaser: In Pursuit of Untamed Skies, by Warren Faidley. The Weather Channel (Independent Publishers Group, Dist.), $24.95 (182 p.) ISBN 1-888763-00-0, over 100 color photos. Nonfiction trade paperback original. May 1996 publication date.

The Weather Channel has rushed Storm Chaser to press so it will be available in bookstores nationwide in time for the May 10 premiere of Twister, a fictionalized story of storm chasing scientists, the latest film from Steven Spielberg, Michael Crichton and Amblin Entertainment. May marks the beginning of tornado season as well, further increasing people's fascination with severe weather phenomena and storm chasers.

Faidley, the author of Storm Chaser, is a real life professional storm chaser and award winning photojournalist who was a consultant to Twister. His work has been featured on The Weather Channel, as the movie poster for Twister, and in major publications including Life and National Geographic. He has also been a guest on numerous talk shows and news programs. "To the best of my knowledge, I am the only person, worldwide, whose livelihood depends entirely on filming and taking pictures of the weather. I chase storms with cameras, computers and technology, " says Faidley.

Storm Chaser: In pursuit of untamed skies is a visually compelling first-person account of Faidley's adventures as a professional storm chaser and photographer. With over 100 color photos, including awe inspiring images of tornadoes, supercell thunderstorms, lightning, hail and a riveting chronicle of his journeys, Faidley takes his readers into the wild world of the storm chaser. Storm Chaser includes some of the best weather photography ever, some never before published. Faidley's photos capture not only the power but the overwhelming beauty of these destructive forces of nature. The book also includes a weather photography tip sheet, and a complete storm chaser and severe weather glossary.

In Storm Chaser, Faidley's readers can vicariously experience the thrill, and sometimes the terror, of the pursuit of storms. Faidley describes the hard work, meticulous planning and science of forecasting. Along the way, there are solid lessons in meteorology. Readers will witness the tragic destruction from a tornado in Saragosa, Texas and they'll celebrate with Faidley as he takes the closest, highest-quality image of a lightning bolt striking an object. Ever. Storm Chaser is the compelling story of a real life adventurer coming face-to-face with spectacles of nature as few of us will ever do.

Storm Chaser represents The Weather Channel's first entry into book publishing. "Our customers are fascinated with extreme weather, especially tornadoes. We chose Storm Chaser as our first published book because of Faidley's unique first-person story and outstanding photography," said Wendy Stahl, Vice President, The Weather Channel Enterprises. Storm Chaser Warren Faidley, a companion video which includes footage from many of the chases described in the book, is also available from The Weather Channel.
