The Academy of American Poets:
Other Programs

The American Poets Fund, established by Peter I. B. Lavan, provides confidential assistance to poets in the event of illness or other emergency. Academy Chancellors, Fellows, and award-winners may nominate poets by writing to the Executive Director of the Academy. Funding is limited, and direct applications for assistance are not accepted.

The Academy now offers for sale select audiotapes from its archive of live poetry readings dating back to 1963. Copies from the collection are housed at the Academy's offices, as well as Poets House and Harvard University. A list of available tapes may be obtained from the Academy.

The Academy offers weekend poetry workshops for high-school students in New York City. Graduate students from the Columbia Writing Program teach these popular workshops. At the end of the semester, students present a reading of their work.
